A striking image of a Vietnamese peasant girl holding a lotus blossom with a rifle over her shoulder needed a frame which matched its quality of colour.
A pure black frame would have been too stark and so the moulding was first stained and painted; then distressed to reveal the warmth of the walnut stain beneath the black paint.
